Descubre los secretos de la bella capital del antiguo Reino de León y parte de su provincia (arte, gastronomía, monumentos, misterios y vino) y vive su carnaval en primera persona en su afamado Barrio Húmedo y su marcha. Y podrás participar en un concurso de disfraces

Itinerario:

SÁBADO 25 DE FEBRERO: MADRID – VALDEVIMBRE - LEÓN
Salida desde Madrid a las 8:30 desde el Paseo de la Infanta Isabel 3 (junto al Ministerio de Agricultura – metro Atocha) con destino a uno de los secretos mejor guardados en las entrañas de la tierra. Desde hace siglos, en las colinas del centro-sur de la provincia de León se construyeron bodegas subterráneas, donde se elaboraba el vino. Visitaremos una de ellas, degustaremos sus vinos y tendremos la posibilidad de comer un menú típico a base de productos de la tierra (opcional, no incluido, precio: unos 15€).
Tras el almuerzo, nos dirigiremos a nuestro peculiar alojamiento en la ciudad de León, pues se trata de un hotel “vintage” - galería de arte, donde todo lo que nos rodea tiene un sabor y un valor especiales. En él nos prepararemos para acudir a media tarde a la espectacular Cabalgata de Carnaval y organizaremos un concurso de disfraces (opcional), decidiendo cuál es el mejor en torno a un vino de bienvenida. Por la noche, después de la cena (incluida) iremos al famoso Barrio Húmedo, donde habrá multitud de lugares para estar de marcha e incluso podremos ir disfrazados.

DOMINGO 26 DE FEBRERO: LEÓN – LLAMAS DE LA RIBERA – MADRID
Tras el desayuno, dejaremos la mañana libre para que los que quieran conocer León a fondo puedan hacerlo: su catedral (una de las más espectaculares de España); el antiguo convento de San Marcos (hoy Parador Nacional); la basílica de San Isidoro, con su Panteón Real (llamado por los expertos la “Capilla Sixtina del Arte Románico”) o la famosa Casa de los Botines, obra de Gaudí. Por supuesto, también habrá tiempo para ir de tapas.
Posteriormente, pondremos rumbo al pueblo de Llamas de la Ribera, donde cederemos el protagonismo a uno de los carnavales más antiguos y vistosos de España, en el que la historia toma forma de máscara, e incluso podremos entrar en las casas a ver cómo se visten sus espectaculares personajes: los guirrios. Comeremos dulces típicos de la fiesta y nos haremos fotos con ellos. Tras el carnaval, emprenderemos el viaje de regreso a Madrid, adonde llegaremos sobre las 22:00.

Discover the many secrets hidden in the beautiful capital of the Old Kingdom of León and all the attractive things it offers (art, gastronomy, monuments, many mysteries and an exquisite wine). We will take you to live and experience the Carnival atmosphere in its incredibly famous neighbourhood known as “Barrio Húmedo” (literally Humid Quarter). Also, you will be able to participate in a costume’s contest during the Carnival celebrations.

Itinerary:

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25th: MADRID – VALDEVIMBRE - LEÓN
Departure from Madrid at 8.30 from Paseo de la Infanta Isabel 3 (next to the Agriculture Ministry – metro Atocha) heading one of the most magical places of the lands of León. From centuries ago, the hills located in its southern central part hide some wineries which have been built subterraneously. We will visit one of them, taste its wine and enjoy a wonderful menu created with local products (optional, not included, price around €15).
After lunch, the next stop will be the unique accommodation chosen for this trip in the city of León, a vintage hotel which is at the same time an art gallery, where everything surrounding bears a distinct flavour and value. Later on, we will go and see during the evening the amazing Carnival’s parade and we will also celebrate a costume’s contest (optional), which will be held alongside the tasting of a welcoming wine. During the night, after dinner (included) we will visit the famous “Barrio Húmedo”, where we will encounter many bars and pubs to enjoy with all the perks of the lively Carnival’s atmosphere.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26th: LEÓN – LLAMAS DE LA RIBERA – MADRID
After breakfast, the organisation will give the members the morning free for all those who want to wander around the city, where you can visit the impressive cathedral, the ancient convent of San Marcos, San Isidoro’s Basilica (with its own Royal Burials, which is also called by the experts as the Sixtine Chapel of the Romanesque Art) or the well known Casa de los Botines, built by Gaudí. Of course, we will also have enough time to go around the city altogether and taste some of the typical local tapas.
Later on, we will start our journey backwards, but making a stop in a small city known as Llamas de la Ribera, where we will have the pleasure of enjoying one of the most ancient and attractive Carnivals from all Spain. What it is particular from this scenery is the role and the history of the mask in the carnival celebrations and we will have the honour of visiting some of the houses and see how the characters, called guirrios, get dressed and ready for the parade. Moreover, we will savour typical carnival sweets and take many pictures of everything. After it, we will return to Madrid, reaching our destiny at 22.00 aprox.

INTERNATIONAL ART PARTY (Viernes 20 de enero / Friday, January 20)

El viernes 20 de enero MadridBabel os invita a su gran INTERNATIONAL ART PARTY, que tendrá lugar a las 21:30 en la espectacular Terraza Skynight en la Planta 13 del Hotel Puerta de América *****L (Avenida de América 41- metro Cartagena, con parking gratuito llegando entre las 21:30 y la 1:00).

Tendremos una exposición internacional de artistas de 10 países, sorteos de obras de arte, actuaciones del país invitado (Rumania), proyecciones de lugares de ensueño, buena música y, como siempre, el ambiente internacional más amistoso y divertido, esta vez en todo lo alto de Madrid y con unas vistas increíbles.

La entrada, con llegada prevista entre las 21:30 y la 1:00, será de 10€ e incluirá una copa o dos cervezas o dos refrescos (no hace falta reservar).

No olvidéis traer a todos vuestros amigos, va a ser una noche inolvidable en un marco impresionante.

On Friday, January 20th, MadridBabel invites you to its great INTERNATIONAL ART PARTY, which will take place from 21:30 at the spectacular Skynight Terrace on the 13th Floor of Hotel Puerta de América *****L (Avenida de América 41- metro Cartagena, with free parking if you arrive between 21:30 and 1:00).

There will be an international exhibition with artists from 10 countries, raffles of artworks, live shows by the invited country (Romania), images of outrageous places, good music and our usual fun and friendly international atmosphere, this time on Madrid heights with incredible sights.

The entrance, with arrival scheduled between 21:30 and 1:00, will cost €10, which includes one spirit drink or two beers or two soft drinks (no reservation needed).
